Serve in Christ's name. It is not enough for someone to come just on Sunday to a worship service, although this is important. We believe a growing disciple will be involved in Christian-community - this through involvement in a small group. The discipleship process is not complete until someone begins to reach out to others in serving in Christ's name.

Food Pantry

"For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome..." Matthew 25:35-36

What is a food pantry?
First Baptist Church has established a food pantry to meet the needs of those who turn to us for assistance. The food pantry is an emergency food center whose primary function is to provide help for those in need in the form of a three-day food package.

Who is it for?
Anyone who may be out of work or facing unexpected expenses, or who just needs a little extra help while they get back on track. Provision is also being made for the homeless.

How does it work?
Your donations may be placed in the Little Red Wagon in the east entrance of the church. Volunteers will stock pantry shelves, take inventory, make requests for additional food supplies and fill food bags to be handed out by office staff.

How can you help?
You can help to stock the shelves with food. All foods are welcome, but there is a prepared list of recommended foods in order to be able to put together family meals. A recommended list follows. Also, checks made out to First Baptist Church or Safeway gift certificates to cover special needs are greatly appreciated. Volunteers are also needed to help in the pantry on a weekly basis. The commitment is 1 -2 hours.

The Point

The men in the church saw an opportunity to reach out to the community by using "the Point" - the small section on the west corner of our property. We use the point several times during the year -- the morning of the Christmas parade, the morning of the July 4th pet parade, and the afternoon of the Cycling Classic, also in July.

The first year we began giving away fresh, homemade donuts, hot cocoa, and coffee for the Christmas Parade. Very quickly we saw the same opportunity for the July 4th and Cascade Cycling Classic events. Cinnamon rolls, cocoa and coffee are given away on the 4th of July, and hot dogs and water are given away during the downtown portion of the bicycle race. This year during the bike race, over 350 hot dogs and 600 bottles of water were given away!

Many people pass by our church on their way to these events, so using the point was a natural. People have come to look for us at these events, and they bring their friends by for the food.

We do not accept payment or donations for we are expressing God's love in a practical way - no strings attached.
