A second element of the discipleship process is Growing in Christ-likeness through involvement in a small group.  We offer a variety of groups that you can choose from that will help you grow in your faith and community.

God has designed us for relationship . . . Relationship with Him and others. Spiritual growth and vitality hinge on the cultivation of these relationships. This is true individually as well as corporately.

When we are actively involved in a learning community, we have the greatest potential to see our passion for God develop. The mutual relationships within the body of Christ challenge and spur us on to live lives honoring to God. We need one another and benefit greatly from the community of learning. Consider becoming an active part of a Learning Community at First Baptist Church and develop your passion for God.

Why Be Part of a Life Group?

Life Groups are an essential part of the spiritual life at First Baptist Church, because we need each other. We express our interdependance in community.

Ephesians 4:15 tells us that ìn speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ.

Truth and Love are the two pillars of our Life Groups. We base our meeting times on the Word of God, the Bible, God's truth. We give each other permission to help us grow; and at times, this may be hard. This includes challenge, accountability, confession and confrontation. We express love in genuine community, marked by acceptance, trust, intimacy, openness, support and safety.

Your Life Group Will Commit to. . .
  • Purpose: Together you will foster growth in Christ-likeness in the context of genuine community.
  • Being a Safe Place: In a context of grace you will feel safe, accepted, and free to be open and heard.
  • Accountability to One Another: You will give permission to each other to help you grow through accountability, confession and even confrontation.
  • Be Open & Welcoming: Together you will pray for and invite others to join your Life Group.
  • Deepen Relationships: You will commit yourself to get to know others in the group and care for one another.
Part of our strategy to reach our community for Christ involves beginning to decentralize our ministry and take it out to our neighborhoods. As our Life Groups intentionally focus on the community where they meet, we will begin to impact our city in fresh ways.

Supper Clubs are small groups of about seven to eight adults (married or single) who commit to meeting together once a month (for four months) for a meal and fellowship time for the purpose of getting to know one another.

After signing up, you will be placed in a SUPPER CLUB and will be called by your first hostess and asked to bring a portion of the meal. The hostess is responsible for the main dish, and the rest of the group provides the salad, dessert, etc. At the first meeting, you will decide the date and place of the next month’s dinner and who will bring what. Each of the four couples (or individuals) will take a turn at being host and having the meal in their home. At the end of four months, you will have provided a main dish, hosted in your home, as well as furnished a salad, a dessert, and an extra item at the home of each of the other’s represented in your SUPPER CLUB.

At the end of four months, the names will be scrambled and new SUPPER CLUBS will be formed for the next quarter.

This is a great way to get to know other adults from our church Body. Sign up today if you want to take part in the next SUPPER CLUBS. If you have questions, please contact Judy Hanstad (541-317-9860) or the church office (541-382-3862)
